Dragon Boat Festival

Calling all adventure seekers! In celebration of the Grand Opening of Whitewater, Uptown Columbus is hosting the very first Dragon Boat Festival, featuring the Uptown Dragon Boat race down the Chattahoochee River. The festival is scheduled for May 25 on the RiverWalk in front of the Coca-Cola Space Science Center. Start time is noon; registration fee for the race is $1200 for a corporate team and $800 for a community team. Teams are made up of 20 paddlers and one drummer. Participants must be 14 years old to paddle and 12 years old to be a drummer.

It's a Carnival!

MWR will host a carnival to show our appreciation to our Soldiers and families May 16-19 at Stewart-Watson Field on Eckel Avenue. Active duty Soldiers and their family members will receive wristbands for unlimited free carnival rides from 3-10pm May 16 on Soldier and Family Appreciation Day at the carnival. This event includes more than 30 rides. Refreshments will also be available for purchase. Soldier and Family Appreciation Day will conclude with a fireworks show at 9pm. The carnival continues from 5-11pm May 17, 1pm-midnight May 18 and noon-4pm May 19.

2013 Wellness Fair

The River Valley Area Agency on Aging is commemorating Older Americans Month with the 2013 Wellness Fair.  The theme this year for Older Americans Month is “Unleash the Power of Age”.  This event will take place on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Peachtree Mall from 8:00-10:00 AM.  The Wellness Fair focuses on services for seniors to include but not limited to: free health screenings, education and products, and information on services for older Americans.  I look forward to seeing you in May!  Thanks again!  For more information, con
